I'm drawing a...

My sleeping schedule has been really wierd and it's been throwing me off. Here's something I doodled. I want to work more with silhouettes and hints of reflected light. Anyone know what I'm talking about or know of any artist that work similarly?

I'm also working on some masks for a friends movie. I made some props for a movie he worked on last year and it was a lot of fun. I'll see if I can get some links to a website, in the meantime here's a link to the fan page of the movie I'm currently doing stuff for. Chasing Rodriguez

Nocturnal Bliss from Samovar

I'm a huge loose leaf tea fan and among all the many teas this tisane from Samovar is among my Favorites. It comprises of Honeybush, lemon myrtle, lavender, corn flowers and stevia, a natural sweetener. It's a perfect sleepy-time/chill-out tea and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to escape and relax. You can drink it hot or chill it, adding fresh squeezed lemon and a bit of sugar to beat the heat.

Klean Klay, Maquettes and whatnot

"Klean Klay is easy to handle and work with and remains hand-pliable at room temperature. Klean Klay keeps its smooth, firm consistency and retains the shape into which it is molded. "

I mentioned Klean Klay in an earlier post and I thought it might be helpful if I filled you in and vice-versa. I don't know a whole lot about it, however this is what I do know... from reading product descriptions heheh. Klean Klay is a non-drying, non-hardening, no-sulfur modeling clay. Klean Klay doesn't leave a mess, it's non-toxic and odorless as well. This means you can use it wherever you like, such as when your sitting on the couch watching netflix :P Feel free to let me know if you have any tips or tricks when using this stuff, it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't used it for any finished pieces, however it's my favorite for making Maquettes. If I have an idea of something I want to sculpt I like to make a maquette of it as soon as possible to preserve the idea like a tangible sketch. I have more dialogue with a sculpt as opposed to a sketch. For me it's about seeing it in real life and using my imagination to place it's habits, attitudes, and emotions. Also, with a simple push or pull I can get a wide variety of gesture. This is one of the many things that drew me into sculpting.

Klean Klay comes in a variety of colors and the Natural color Klean Klay comes in varying hardnesses. I've found that the extra-firm is nice for sculpting thin or fine detail that might need to be manhandled, like some kind of embellishment or whatever. This stuff is available at most arts and craft stores, is fairly cheap and lasts FORVER!!! maybe..?

Side Note: It is also a good mold-making clay for silicone rubber since it doesn't contain sulfur. Sulfur in clay inhibits the curing process of the silicone, so go with this stuff. I think it's also fine to use with plaster molds as well, I'll be testing this out soon. I'll be sure to show you the results. If you have experience using this clay please let me know how you enjoyed it and if you have any tips. I'm currently having issues creating super fine, smooth surfaces without leaving tool marks and finger prints, any suggestions?

Quick update

Finished sculpting the super dooper marionette. Now all I have to do is fire, glaze, and fire again...hopefully.

Trying new things

I had a whole bunch of these decocolor paint pens left over from when I was drawing on shoes at the Haight Street festival in 2010. I haven't been using them since and it made me sad, so I just started doing stuff with 'em and it's been a lot of fun. They bleed through most of the paper I use so I started to gesso the paper to hold the paint and it works pretty well. I've never really used anything like them before, does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do with them? Have any of you used them before? I'd love to hear what people are doing with these things.

Superhero and villain maquettes and Marionettes for sale

These are the original ideas for the Marionette i'm currently working on(see previous post) I hope to make a full size Villain Marionette, however it wont be in time for the show...or will it? Still no date haha. These sculpts were done using Klean Klay and are about 7 inches tall. I'm thinking about possibly making action figures out of them, any thoughts?

Also, here's a peek at some Marionettes I got into this year's Spring show at the Academy of Art. I received 2nd place Best of Show for undergrad, woohoo! I hope to have better photos of them eventually. The stands are made from forged steel and finished with linseed oil. They stand about four and a half feet tall. The marionettes vary in size, the tallest being nearly 3 feet when standing erect. They are made of ceramic and and finished with glazes. They are all currently for sale. If anyone is interested, leave me a comment and I'll provide you with my contact info.

A superhero in the making

This is a marionette I'm making for a superhero show. No one knows when the show is going to be and there is a possibility I wont finish in time. Either way I'm having a blast Making this guy, trying new techniques and going in a slightly different direction. I've started using hinge joints for the elbows and knees and I'm also trying out interchangeable hands. I'll post more photos when it's finished, keep an eye out.
