For now I'm just going to show you a pic of my workspace and a piece I'm working on for a call for artists. Let me know what you think about it, it should look super cool when it's done :) I'll have more pictures soon.

Here' a sculpture I'm working on for my instructor, John Dobson. He has us working on a project focusing and Jungian/freudian archetypes. I don't want to go into it too much now, however as the sculpture nears completion I'll provide lil tidbits of info here and there. Enjoy :)

Done...?

Finally finished doing touch-sups and stringing today. Final picture tomorrow evening? Look for them on my portfolio page in the coming days.

Should I give the little guy a lighter for his boom sticks? Let me know what you think, I'm on the fence about it. Hope to hear from you :)

Almost Complete

This is right after the first glaze firing

This is after the piece is stained with toxic chemicals and starts looking good. Very satisfied with the mask at this point.

and this it it after the final firing with the other two guys

All that is left is some touch up...possibly even grinding off some of the glaze in order to reglaze. The final firing gave me an undesirable effect with the mask, a not so happy accident.  I hope to have the final completed versions of the marionettes up tomorrow evening or saturday.

Head and figure

This is a quick 32" gesture sculpture that took about an hour to sculpt. The focus was to capture the gesture of the model using some basic shapes and to not get caught up in musculature. We were required to work fast and loose which I haven't done with figures before, needless to say it was a fun way to start the class. It's not the best work I've done but I'm hoping the progress I make will inspire me to keep working hard. I'm posting these pics so we can watch my progress as a figurative sculptor.
I've only sculpted people one other semester 4 years ago in a figure modeling and it feels great to be thinking in this way again. I'm excited to see my progress and hope there is something here to be learned from it. Oh yeah here's also a picture of the armature we use, if you're interested I can give you instructions on how to build it.

Last project of the summer

This is a photo of a puppet in the works. It's a collaboration I'm working on with my friend Meghann. This will most likely be the last project I work on until school is out. Hopefully I'll have some Photo's of my projects to post in the coming 15 weeks, however school might contribute to the lack of updating so my posts might be sparse for the rest of the semester. Anyway, let me know if you have any suggestions or any other kind of helpful feedback. Enjoy :)

Almost Done

Here are some photos of my Superhero Marionette. I've finished glaze firings and assembly. All that's left is to string it up to the controllers..it feel like I've been working on it forever since I haven't had regular access to any kind of ceramic facilities.. As always, i'd love to hear what you have to say, Enjoy.

Begining Flash

Here's a link to something I started earlier this morning. This is my first time working with flash and it's been a lot of fun. I notice that the screen capture doesn't capture the animation as smooth as flash, hopefully I can have a better one up once the animation is completed. Let me know what you think and if you have any handy dandy tips or tricks, or working in Flash. Enjoy :)

Moosh Poop

PhotoShop stuff

Here are some images I'm working on in photoshop. I still have a way to go before they're finished, but I thought I'd show you all what I've been up to. Feel free to comment on my progress or suggest anything. I'd eventually like to add color to these pieces after the values are locked, so if you have any suggestions on how to do that it would be greatly appreciated....especially since I'm not too sure how to go about it. Enjoy :)

Attempting Vector Drawing

I'm not too sure what I'm doing, but I like the way it's looking so far. I'm not too sure where to take this image or what else I could do to make it better. I'd love to hear all off your feedback regarding style, color, line work etc., especially since this is a new media.

More mixed media with gauche, decocolor, ink, and colored pencil

New Territory

I did some more mixed media work using, water color, ink, and deco marker. I had an idea of what I wanted to do but wasn't really sure how to go about it. I wanted these images to compliment one another but when I was working on the blue image I ran out of blue and resorted to using green. I was also thinking I could have created warm shadows in the cool drawing and vice versa. This is new territory for me and I'd love to hear what you think is and isn't working. Enjoy :)

Making Masks

These photos document the process of making the masks for "Chasing Rodriguez"

Beleive it or not, I'm actually quite happy.

These are the sculpts of the faces with clay walls for pouring plaster.

these are the plaster molds after the clay is removed.

The Masks after being cast in flexible slip and after having eyes nose and mouths cut into.

Fully painted masks, strung and ready to go.
